Terms of Service

Welcome to Pillowtale. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Parallax Technologies LLC ("we", "our", or "us") for the Pillowtale iOS app. By downloading or using Pillowtale, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. License and Apple's EULA
Pillowtale is licensed to you, not sold, subject to these Terms and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA): apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. If these Terms and Apple's EULA conflict, Apple's EULA applies to the extent required. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it.
2. The Service
Pillowtale is a bedtime story app for parents and guardians. It includes:
- A library of ready-made stories with a standard narrator voice
- Voice recording and voice cloning, so stories can be narrated in your own voice; cloning is performed on a voice server operated by Parallax Technologies
- AI-generated personalized stories and illustrations
- Anonymous cloud backup of your AI stories, without an email address or login
- Free access with limits, and a Premium subscription (Section 6)
Features, story libraries and AI providers may change over time.
3. Eligibility and Parental Use
You must be an adult (at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live) to set up and use Pillowtale. The app is intended to be operated by a parent or guardian, and children should listen to stories under an adult's supervision. If you enter information about a child or use the app with a child, you confirm that you are that child's parent or guardian, or that you otherwise have authority to do so and to consent to the processing described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Voice Cloning and Consent
Pillowtale creates a synthetic voice from a recording you provide. You agree that:
- You will only record and clone your own voice, or the voice of an adult who has given you explicit permission to do so.
- You will not use the app to impersonate, deceive, or harm any person, or to create a voice of anyone without their consent.
- You are responsible for the recordings you provide and for how you use the generated narration.
Your cloned voice is used only to narrate stories for you, and you can delete it at any time in the app. We may suspend access to the voice feature if we reasonably believe it is being misused.
5. AI-Generated Content
Before the first AI story is created, the app shows you what would be sent to each AI service and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent until you agree, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings. What happens when you do is described in our Privacy Policy.
AI stories and illustrations are created automatically. We instruct our AI providers to produce gentle, age-appropriate bedtime content, but AI output can be inaccurate, unexpected or unsuitable, and we do not review each story before you see it. We recommend that a parent previews AI stories.
If a story contains something inappropriate, use Report and Hide Story in the reader. The story is removed from your library straight away, and the report is sent to us so we can review it and improve the safeguards. A report contains the reason you chose, the story's language and the story text in the form it had before your child's name was inserted; it carries no identifier for you and no name.
6. Free Access, Premium and Usage Limits
Pillowtale can be used for free with limits, for example on the number of AI stories and on how much of a story is narrated in your cloned voice. A Premium subscription unlocks more, including full-story narration in your cloned voice and a larger AI story allowance. The current limits for free, trial and Premium use are shown in the app.
Because AI stories have real per-story costs, Premium AI story allowances are subject to daily and monthly limits. We may adjust limits to prevent abuse or to keep the service sustainable, and the limits that apply are always shown in the app.
We will not reduce the Premium limits that applied when you subscribed for a period you have already paid for. A reduction takes effect no earlier than your next renewal, which you are free not to take.
7. Subscriptions and Free Trials
Pillowtale Premium is offered as auto-renewing subscriptions purchased through Apple: a monthly plan and a yearly plan. The yearly plan may include a free trial for eligible users (currently 7 days); the monthly plan does not include a free trial. Prices, the trial length and the plans available to you are shown in the app before you confirm a purchase and may vary by country or region.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, or, if you start a free trial, when the trial ends.
- Free trial conversion. When a free trial ends, it automatically converts into a paid yearly subscription and your Apple Account is charged, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Cancellation. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions) or from Manage Subscription in the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you keep Premium until then. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Trial eligibility. Free trials are available only to eligible users as determined by Apple, generally once per Apple Account within a subscription group. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Refunds. Payments are handled by Apple. We cannot issue refunds directly; refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. No partial refunds are provided for an unused part of a period, except where required by law.
- Restore. You can restore an active subscription on another device signed in to the same Apple Account with Restore Purchases in Settings.
- Family Sharing. Pillowtale subscriptions are not shared through Apple's Family Sharing. A subscription applies to the Apple Account that bought it.
- Price changes. If a subscription price changes, Apple will notify you in advance, and where required by law or Apple's rules you will be asked to agree before the new price applies.
8. Content Ownership
8.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of the voice recordings you provide. Subject to applicable law and the terms of the underlying AI models, you may use the stories, illustrations and narration generated for you for personal, non-commercial family use.
8.2 License to Us
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store and process your content only as needed to provide the service to you, for example to create your cloned voice on our voice server, to narrate stories, and to keep your cloud backup. This license ends when you delete the content, except for copies retained by our providers as described in the Privacy Policy.
8.3 Our Content
The app, its design, characters, mascot and ready-made stories are owned by Parallax Technologies LLC or its licensors. The voice technology uses an open-source model from Kyutai, licensed under CC-BY-4.0.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Record or clone any person's voice without their explicit consent, or clone a child's voice
- Use the app to impersonate others or to create misleading or deceptive audio
- Try to make the app generate illegal, harmful, sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate content
- Violate the intellectual property or privacy rights of others
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, or extract credentials or keys from it
- Use automated systems to access the service or to generate content in bulk, or try to get around usage limits
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its servers
10. Privacy and Data Deletion
Our Privacy Policy explains how Pillowtale handles information, including voice data, children's information, cloud backup and the providers we use. You can delete voices, stories and all of your data from inside the app, as described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Third-Party Services
The app relies on third-party services such as Apple, AI model providers, cloud hosting and subscription management. Their availability is outside our control, and we may change providers. Your use of the App Store is governed by Apple's terms.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT A CLONED VOICE WILL SOUND EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL, OR THAT GENERATED STORIES, ILLUSTRATIONS OR NARRATION WILL BE ACCURATE OR MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS. CLOUD BACKUP IS PROVIDED FOR CONVENIENCE AND IS NOT GUARANTEED TO PRESERVE YOUR CONTENT.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PARALLAX TECHNOLOGIES LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR PROFITS. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS RIGHTS YOU HAVE UNDER CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS THAT CANNOT BE WAIVED.
14. Changes and Termination
We may update or discontinue the app or any feature. We may update these Terms; we will change the "Last Updated" date and tell you in the app about material changes. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms. You can stop using Pillowtale at any time by deleting your data in the app and deleting the app; remember to cancel any subscription through Apple.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, unless the consumer laws of your country give you the right to bring proceedings where you live.
