Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 28, 2026
As Shot ("we", "our", or "us") is an app built by Parallax Technologies LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information the As Shot iOS app handles, what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, who processes it on our behalf, where it goes, how long it is kept, and the choices you have.
As Shot helps you take a passport, visa or ID photo with your iPhone camera. It measures the photo against the published rules for the document you choose while you take it, and gives you the photo file exactly as the camera made it, plus files that are only cropped and sized for the document. As Shot has no account and no login, shows no ads, and does not track you.
1. Summary
- Your photos stay on your iPhone. Photos are taken, measured and turned into files on your device. We never receive your photos, and neither does any service we use.
- Face measurements never leave your device. The app uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to find your face and measure things like head size, eye line, tilt and lighting. These measurements exist only in the app's memory while you use it. They are not saved, not sent anywhere, and not used to recognize or identify anyone.
- No account and no tracking. There is no sign-up. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and there are no advertising or social media SDKs in the app.
- Anonymous usage analytics, with your permission in the EEA and UK. We record which steps of the app are used (Section 3.1). If your App Store country or your iPhone's region is in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing is sent unless you allow it. Everywhere, you can turn analytics off in Settings.
- Crash reports, processed in the EU. If the app crashes or hits an error, a technical report is sent so we can fix it (Section 3.2). It contains no photo, no face measurement and no user identifier. You can turn crash reports off in Settings.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
2. Information That Stays on Your Device
2.1 Camera and Face Measurement
The app uses the camera (front or rear, your choice) to show a live view and take the photo. While the camera is open, the app analyzes the live image on your device with Apple's Vision framework to guide you to the right distance and framing and to measure the photo against the document's rules. All of this happens on your iPhone. No camera frame, photo or measurement is uploaded. The app does not create or keep a face template, and it does not compare your face with any other face.
2.2 Your Photo Files
When you get your files, the app writes them to its own temporary folder on your device so you can save, share or print them. The app does not keep a library or history of your photos. iOS clears its temporary folder over time, and deleting the app removes it. Where the files go next is your choice:
- Photos. If you save a file to your photo library, iOS asks for permission to add to your library. The app can add photos but cannot read your library.
- Share and Files. If you share a file, it goes to the app or service you pick in the iOS share sheet, under that app's own terms.
- Printing. If you print with AirPrint, the print sheet is sent from your iPhone to the printer you select.
The app does not ask for access to your location, so it adds no location to your files.
2.3 Settings Stored on Your Device
The app stores a few values on your device with standard iOS storage: your analytics choice, your crash report choice, whether the analytics question applies in your region, and a count of completed exports (used only to decide when the App Store rating prompt may appear). Your purchase is read from Apple's own records on your device, not from a value we store. All of this is removed when you delete the app.
3. Information That Leaves Your Device
3.1 Usage Analytics (Mixpanel)
We use Mixpanel, Inc. to understand how the app is used, for example where people stop before getting their files. The app sends Mixpanel the names of in-app events, with a few fixed values:
- Steps reached: document selected (the document type, for example "uk-passport", and how you will apply), an unsupported country chosen (the country you picked, not your location), preparation, camera opened, photo taken, retake, result, files.
- Choices: whether you allowed camera access, front or rear camera, whether the photo was taken with the shutter or automatically, which file type you exported and where to (Photos, Files, share sheet or AirPrint), print sheet opened.
- Purchase steps: paywall shown, purchase started, completed, cancelled or failed (with the product identifier and, for a failure, an App Store error code), restore tapped and whether a purchase was found.
- Housekeeping: a rating prompt being requested, the update screen being shown, the settings file not loading (with the reason, such as "offline"), the App Store being unavailable.
Each event also carries the app version, the kind of build (App Store or test build), and details the Mixpanel SDK adds on its own: device model and manufacturer, iOS version, screen size, the Mixpanel library version and the time of the event. Events are attached to a random identifier created on your device when analytics first starts. It is not the advertising identifier and not Apple's device identifier (identifierForVendor), and we do not link it to your name, email address, Apple Account or purchase records.
We never send photos, face measurements, any value derived from your face, or whether an individual rule check passed or failed. The app also tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to work out your city or region.
Mixpanel processes this data on our behalf on servers in the United States.
3.2 Crash and Error Reports (Sentry)
We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) to receive reports when the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, so we can fix it. Reports are stored in Sentry's European Union region, in Germany. A report contains technical data: where in the app's code the problem happened (a stack trace), the app version and build, device model, iOS version, technical device state such as free memory, and a random installation identifier created by Sentry.
Crash reports never contain a photo, a screenshot, the layout of a screen, a face measurement, or a user identifier. Session replay and performance monitoring are off, the SDK is set not to send personal information, and our Sentry project is set not to store IP addresses.
Crash reports are on by default because they rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working (Section 7). You can object at any time by turning off Send crash reports in Settings, in any country; reporting then stops.
3.3 App Settings File
When the app starts, it downloads a small settings file from our website (parallaxtechnologies.net). We use it to switch features on or off, show a notice if an official photo rule changes, adjust measurement thresholds, or ask you to update an outdated version. The request contains nothing about you beyond what every web request contains, such as your network address. Our website is served through Cloudflare, which processes these requests on our behalf.
3.4 Purchases (Apple)
The one-time unlock is sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment card details, name or Apple Account. The app checks your purchase with Apple's StoreKit on your device. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your photos, face measurements or any biometric identifier, your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise or approximate location, or the advertising identifier. We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Your Choices
- Analytics question (EEA and UK). On first launch, if your App Store country or your iPhone's region is in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, or if neither can be read, the app asks whether you want to share anonymous usage data before you reach any other screen. The two answers have equal weight and nothing is preselected. Until you answer, nothing is sent; if you answer no, nothing is sent.
- Other countries. Analytics is on until you turn it off.
- Settings, everywhere. Settings, then Privacy, has two switches: Share anonymous usage data, and Send crash reports. Turning analytics off stops all analytics sending in every country. Turning crash reports off stops crash reporting. You can change either at any time.
6. Service Providers
We share data only with the service providers below, only for the purpose listed, and we do not sell personal information. Each provider processes data under its own terms and data processing agreement.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Mixpanel (United States) | Anonymous usage analytics | The events in Section 3.1, the random install identifier and basic device details. No photos, no face data. |
| Sentry (EU region, Germany) | Crash and error reports | The technical data in Section 3.2. No photos, no face data, no user identifier, IP address not stored. |
| Cloudflare | Serving our website and the app settings file | Standard web request data, such as network address |
| Apple | App Store, purchases | Handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy |
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
7. Legal Bases (EEA and UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent, for usage analytics, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings without affecting sending that already took place; our legitimate interests, for crash and error reports (to find and fix problems that stop the app from working) and for serving the app settings file (to keep the app current and switch off a feature quickly if an official rule changes), and you can object to crash reports at any time with the switch in Settings; and performance of a contract, for providing the app and the purchase you make.
8. Data Retention
- Photos and files on your device are kept until you delete them or delete the app. The app keeps no copy of its own beyond its temporary folder.
- Analytics events are kept according to the retention settings of our Mixpanel project, and only as long as they are useful for understanding how the app is used.
- Crash reports are kept according to the retention period of our Sentry plan, and only as long as they are needed to fix problems.
- Web request logs are kept by Cloudflare according to its own terms.
- Purchase records are kept by Apple.
Because the analytics identifier is random and not linked to you, we usually cannot find your events from an email request. Turning analytics off in Settings stops any further sending.
9. International Transfers
Parallax Technologies LLC is based in the United States, and analytics data is processed in the United States. Crash reports are stored in the European Union (Germany) by Sentry, a United States company. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, transfers to the United States rely on the safeguards in our providers' data processing terms, including, for Mixpanel, its participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum.
Users in Japan. The foreign country where analytics data is handled is the United States. You can ask us for information about the measures our providers take to protect this data by contacting us at the address below.
10. Children's Privacy
As Shot is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian may use the app to take a document photo of their child. That photo, like every photo in the app, stays on the device, and no information about the child is sent to us or to any provider. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing before withdrawal), and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. The switches in Settings let you stop analytics and crash reports directly. For anything else, contact us; because the app has no account, we may ask for details that help us find the data, and we will help as far as we can identify it.
11.1 KVKK (Turkey)
For users in Turkey, under the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) you have the right to learn whether your personal data is processed, to request information about the processing and its purpose, to know the third parties to whom it is transferred in Turkey or abroad, to request correction or deletion, and to object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact contact@parallaxtechnologies.net.
11.2 United States
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not collect biometric identifiers or biometric information: face measurements are computed on your device for the photo you are taking, are never stored or transmitted, and are never used to identify a person.
12. Security
All network requests from the app use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Because your photos and face measurements never leave your device, there is nothing of that kind for us to protect on a server. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when we add a new provider or feature. We will change the "Last Updated" date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. If we ever start sending a new kind of data that needs your permission, the app will ask for it first.
