Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 28, 2026
Onscript ("we", "our", or "us") is an app built by Parallax Technologies LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Onscript iOS app handles, what stays on your iPhone, what leaves it, who processes it on our behalf, where it goes, how long it is kept, and the choices you have.
Onscript is a teleprompter. It shows your script on screen and, with voice follow, moves the text as you read it aloud. You can also record yourself with the front camera while you read. Onscript has no account and no login, shows no ads, and does not track you.
1. Summary
- Your scripts stay on your iPhone. Scripts you type, paste or import are stored only on your device. We never receive them.
- Voice follow runs entirely on your iPhone. Your speech is recognized on the device with Apple's built-in speech recognition. The audio used for voice follow is not recorded, not saved and not sent anywhere, and the recognized words are not sent either.
- Your recordings stay on your iPhone. Videos you record are kept in the app on your device. They go to your photo library or another app only when you choose to save or share them.
- No account and no tracking. There is no sign-up. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and there are no advertising or social media SDKs in the app.
- Anonymous usage analytics, with your permission in the EEA and UK. We record which features are used (Section 3.1). If your App Store country or your iPhone's region is in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing is sent unless you allow it. Everywhere, you can turn analytics off in Settings.
- Crash reports, processed in the EU. If the app crashes or hits an error, a technical report is sent so we can fix it (Section 3.2). It contains no script, no recording, no audio and no user identifier. You can turn crash reports off in Settings.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple, and we use RevenueCat to check your subscription status (Section 3.4). We never see your payment details.
2. Information That Stays on Your Device
2.1 Scripts
Scripts you type, paste, or import from a text, RTF or PDF file are stored in the app's own storage on your device. When you import a file, the app copies its text; the file itself stays where it was. Deleted scripts stay in Recently deleted for 30 days so you can restore them, then they are removed. There is no sync and no cloud copy made by the app. Like other app data, your scripts can be included in your iPhone's backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), which is handled by Apple under your backup settings.
2.2 Voice Follow and the Microphone
When you use voice follow, the app listens to the microphone and passes the sound to Apple's speech recognition (SpeechAnalyzer), which runs on your iPhone. The recognized words are compared with your script on the device to move the text. The audio used for voice follow is processed in memory only: it is not written to a file, not kept, and not sent to us, to Apple or to anyone else.
The first time you use voice follow, iOS may need to download Apple's speech model for your language. This download comes from Apple, is managed by iOS, and does not contain your audio or your script. On some devices iOS may also ask for speech recognition permission.
2.3 Camera Recordings
If you switch on Record, the app records video from the front camera, with sound from the microphone, while you read. Recordings are stored in the app's own storage on your device and listed under Takes. If the app closes during a recording, the part already recorded is kept and shown as a recovered take. A recording leaves the app only when you choose:
- Save to Photos. iOS asks for permission to add to your photo library at that moment. The app can add videos but cannot read your library. Deleting a take in Onscript does not delete a copy you saved to Photos.
- Share. The video goes to the app or service you pick in the iOS share sheet, under that app's own terms.
Like other app data, recordings can be included in your iPhone's backup. Deleting the app deletes recordings you have not saved elsewhere.
2.4 Settings Stored on Your Device
The app stores your reading settings (text size, margins, speed, mirroring, countdown, recording resolution, voice follow language), the number of free voice follow takes used, your analytics choice, your crash report choice, and whether the analytics question applies in your region, using standard iOS storage. All of this is removed when you delete the app.
3. Information That Leaves Your Device
3.1 Usage Analytics (Mixpanel)
We use Mixpanel, Inc. to understand how the app is used, for example how often voice follow loses its place. The app sends Mixpanel the names of in-app events, with a few fixed values:
- Scripts and reading: a script created (and whether it was typed, pasted, imported from a text, RTF or PDF file, or the sample), reading started and finished (voice follow or fixed speed, whether recording was on, the speech recognition language such as "en-US", the length as a range such as "2 to 5 minutes", and how it ended).
- Permissions and recordings: whether you allowed the microphone, the camera and, if asked, speech recognition; a recording saved (length range, Photos or share), discarded or recovered.
- Voice follow quality: voice follow stalled, switched to fixed speed.
- Subscription steps: subscription page shown (with the number of free takes used), purchase started, completed, cancelled or failed (with the product identifier and, for a failure, an error code), restore tapped and whether a subscription was found.
- Housekeeping: a rating prompt being requested, the update screen being shown, the settings file not loading (with the reason, such as "offline"), the App Store being unavailable.
Each event also carries the app version, the kind of build (App Store or test build), and details the Mixpanel SDK adds on its own: device model and manufacturer, iOS version, screen size, the Mixpanel library version and the time of the event. Events are attached to a random identifier created on your device when analytics first starts. It is not the advertising identifier and not Apple's device identifier (identifierForVendor), and we do not link it to your name, email address, Apple Account or subscription records.
We never send your scripts, script titles, file names, recognized words, audio or video. The app also tells Mixpanel not to use your network address to work out your city or region.
Mixpanel processes this data on our behalf on servers in the United States.
3.2 Crash and Error Reports (Sentry)
We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) to receive reports when the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, so we can fix it. Reports are stored in Sentry's European Union region, in Germany. A report contains technical data: where in the app's code the problem happened (a stack trace), the app version and build, device model, iOS version, technical device state such as free memory, a random installation identifier created by Sentry, and short fixed step names the app records (for example "reading started" or "recording stopped").
Crash reports never contain a script, a script title, a file name, recognized words, audio, video, a screenshot, the layout of a screen, or a user identifier. Session replay and performance monitoring are off, the SDK is set not to send personal information, and our Sentry project is set not to store IP addresses.
Crash reports are on by default because they rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working (Section 7). You can object at any time by turning off Send crash reports in Settings, in any country; reporting then stops.
3.3 App Settings File
When the app starts, it downloads a small settings file from our website (parallaxtechnologies.net). We use it to switch features on or off, adjust voice follow, set how many free takes are offered (it can only increase them), or ask you to update an outdated version. The request contains nothing about you beyond what every web request contains, such as your network address. Our website is served through Cloudflare, which processes these requests on our behalf.
3.4 Subscriptions (Apple and RevenueCat)
The Onscript subscription is sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment card details, name or Apple Account. We use RevenueCat, Inc. to load the subscription offer and to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier that RevenueCat creates, your purchase and subscription records from the App Store, and basic technical information about the app and device, such as the app and iOS versions. We do not give RevenueCat your name, email address or any identifier that would link you to other data, and we do not use its advertising or attribution integrations. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your scripts, your voice, your recordings, your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise or approximate location, or the advertising identifier. We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Your Choices
- Analytics question (EEA and UK). On first launch, if your App Store country or your iPhone's region is in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, or if neither can be read, the app asks whether you want to share anonymous usage data before you reach any other screen. The two answers have equal weight and nothing is preselected. Until you answer, nothing is sent; if you answer no, nothing is sent.
- Other countries. Analytics is on until you turn it off.
- Settings, everywhere. Onscript's Settings has two switches: Share anonymous usage data, and Send crash reports. Turning analytics off stops all analytics sending in every country. Turning crash reports off stops crash reporting. You can change either at any time.
- iOS permissions. The microphone, camera and Photos permissions are asked only when a feature needs them, and you can change them in the iPhone's Settings app. Reading at a fixed speed needs no permission.
6. Service Providers
We share data only with the service providers below, only for the purpose listed, and we do not sell personal information. Each provider processes data under its own terms and data processing agreement.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Mixpanel (United States) | Anonymous usage analytics | The events in Section 3.1, the random install identifier and basic device details. No scripts, audio or video. |
| Sentry (EU region, Germany) | Crash and error reports | The technical data in Section 3.2. No scripts, audio or video, no user identifier, IP address not stored. |
| RevenueCat (United States) | Subscription offer and status | Anonymous app user identifier, purchase and subscription records, basic app and device information |
| Cloudflare | Serving our website and the app settings file | Standard web request data, such as network address |
| Apple | App Store, subscriptions, speech model download | Handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy |
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
7. Legal Bases (EEA and UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent, for usage analytics, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings without affecting sending that already took place; our legitimate interests, for crash and error reports (to find and fix problems that stop the app from working) and for serving the app settings file (to keep the app current and adjust or switch off a feature quickly), and you can object to crash reports at any time with the switch in Settings; and performance of a contract, for providing the app and managing your subscription.
8. Data Retention
- Scripts, recordings and settings on your device are kept until you delete them or delete the app. Deleted scripts are kept for 30 days in Recently deleted.
- Analytics events are kept according to the retention settings of our Mixpanel project, and only as long as they are useful for understanding how the app is used.
- Crash reports are kept according to the retention period of our Sentry plan, and only as long as they are needed to fix problems.
- Subscription records are kept by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to manage your subscription and meet legal and accounting requirements.
- Web request logs are kept by Cloudflare according to its own terms.
Because the analytics identifier is random and not linked to you, we usually cannot find your events from an email request. Turning analytics off in Settings stops any further sending.
9. International Transfers
Parallax Technologies LLC is based in the United States. Analytics data and subscription status are processed in the United States. Crash reports are stored in the European Union (Germany) by Sentry, a United States company. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, transfers to the United States rely on the safeguards in our providers' data processing terms, including, for Mixpanel, its participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum.
Users in Japan. The foreign country where analytics and subscription data is handled is the United States. You can ask us for information about the measures our providers take to protect this data by contacting us at the address below.
10. Children's Privacy
Onscript is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing before withdrawal), and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Your scripts and recordings are on your device, and you can delete them in the app. The switches in Settings let you stop analytics and crash reports directly. For anything else, contact us; because the app has no account, we may ask for details that help us find the data, and we will help as far as we can identify it.
11.1 KVKK (Turkey)
For users in Turkey, under the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) you have the right to learn whether your personal data is processed, to request information about the processing and its purpose, to know the third parties to whom it is transferred in Turkey or abroad, to request correction or deletion, and to object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact contact@parallaxtechnologies.net.
11.2 United States
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
12. Security
All network requests from the app use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Because your scripts, voice and recordings never leave your device unless you share them, there is nothing of that kind for us to protect on a server. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when we add a new provider or feature. We will change the "Last Updated" date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. If we ever start sending a new kind of data that needs your permission, the app will ask for it first.
