Onscript Support

Last Updated: October 28, 2026

Onscript is a teleprompter for iPhone. Your script scrolls on screen while you read, either at a fixed speed or with voice follow, which moves the text as you speak and waits when you stop. You can record yourself with the front camera while you read. Speech recognition runs on your iPhone, and your scripts and recordings stay on it. Fixed-speed reading and recording are free; voice follow has free takes and then a yearly subscription. Requires iOS 26 or later on iPhone.

Need help? Email contact@parallaxtechnologies.net. Please include your iPhone model, the iOS version and the app version (shown at the bottom of Onscript's Settings). You do not need to send your script.

Questions

Which languages does voice follow support?

For now, voice follow works with English scripts, with English (US) and English (UK) speech recognition. You can choose between them in Onscript's Settings under Voice follow language. If a script looks like another language, Onscript tells you and reads it at a fixed speed instead. Fixed-speed reading and recording work in any language.

It says "Model downloading". What does that mean?

The first time you use voice follow, iOS downloads Apple's English speech model to your iPhone. This needs an internet connection once; after that, voice follow works offline. While it downloads, you can read at a fixed speed. If the download does not finish, check your connection (Wi-Fi is best) and free storage space, then start voice follow again. The download comes from Apple and contains nothing from you.

Voice follow needs the microphone. How do I allow it?

If you tapped Don't Allow earlier, open the iPhone's Settings app, scroll down to Onscript, and switch on Microphone. Recording also needs Camera. On some iPhones iOS may also ask for speech recognition permission; allow it in the same place. If voice follow says it is not hearing you, check that no other app is using the microphone and that your microphone or headset is connected.

Voice follow lost its place

Voice follow listens for the words of your script. If you skip ahead or ad-lib, it searches for where you are and catches up when you return to the script. In a loud room, or if your script differs a lot from what you say, it can stall; Onscript then offers to continue at a fixed speed. Holding the phone closer or using a headset microphone helps.

Where are my recordings, and how do I get them into Photos?

Recordings are kept in Onscript under Takes. Open a take and tap Save to Photos; iOS asks once for permission to add to your library. You can also use Share to send the video to another app. If saving fails, allow Photos for Onscript in the iPhone's Settings app, or use Share. Deleting a take in Onscript does not remove a copy you saved to Photos. Deleting the app deletes takes you have not saved elsewhere, so save the ones you want to keep. If the app closed during a recording, the part already recorded is kept as a recovered take.

How many free takes do I get?

The first three voice follow takes are free. A take counts once voice follow has followed you for about 50 words, and a take is never cut off in the middle when your free takes run out. Fixed-speed reading and recording are always free.

How do I restore my subscription?

Open Onscript's Settings and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple Account that bought the subscription. The subscription is not shared through Family Sharing, so it only restores on the Apple Account that bought it.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Onscript, and tap Cancel Subscription. To avoid the next renewal, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You keep voice follow until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Which files can I import?

Plain text (.txt), RTF and PDF files with selectable text. A scanned PDF that is only an image has no text to import. You can also paste text or type it in.

Does anything leave my iPhone?

Your scripts, your voice and your recordings stay on your iPhone unless you share them. The app sends anonymous usage events and crash reports, which you can switch off in Onscript's Settings. See the Privacy Policy for details.
